ปีจีนเปลี่ยนที่ลี่ชุน (立春) ราวต้นเดือนกุมภาพันธ์ ไม่ใช่วันที่ 1 มกราคม และไม่ใช่วันตรุษจีนด้วย คนเกิดปลายมกราคมจึงมักได้นักษัตรของปีก่อนหน้า ถ้าไม่ทราบเวลาเกิด เสาเวลาจะเว้นไว้ ไม่เดาให้ — อีกสามเสายังใช้ได้ตามปกติ คนละระบบกับปีนักษัตรไทย ซึ่งเปลี่ยนตอนสงกรานต์ · The Chinese year turns at 立春, in the first days of February — not on 1 January, and not at Chinese New Year either. Someone born in late January usually carries the previous year's animal. If you do not know your birth time, the hour pillar is left out rather than guessed; the other three still stand. This is a different system from the Thai zodiac year, which turns at Songkran.
